An Old Workbench on which History was Made

This last spring I made my first workbench. It is a brute and I love it. I am not sure what I will make on it in the years to come. This summer I saw one of the most important workbenches in the world. It was the bench of Wilbur and Orville Wright. It is stuck up high and out of close view at the Smithsonian. It is wonderful for me to imagine the hard work and mistakes which happen on the benches surface. I don’t long for my bench to be place in a museum someday, I simply hope I will enjoy sitting there making mistakes and learning.

  1. I couldn’t agree more. Here’s to all the splinters, and shavings of a life well spent making keepsakes for future generations.
